Subject:Chinese vase
Posted By: Tony Wed, Apr 22, 2020 IP: 23.243.126.110

Dear friend,
It is a heavy vase (21.5โ€ by 14โ€) with beautiful details and a reign mark at the bottom.
I really appreciate your time and input on this vase๐Ÿ™
Best,
Tony

It's a Qianlong mark 1736-1796. However based on just one picture it would be imo a 20th century reproduction.

My impression from the fraction of the vase visible is that you have a transfer-decorated product from a Chinese porcelain ornamentation factory and not a painting studio. The weight suggests it is low-fired pottery and not porcelain. Its apocryphal mark of 'Made during the Qianlong Reign of the Great Qing Dynasty' usually also would have been applied by decal on such pieces.

While the enamels on your vase may have been applied by hand over the transfer pattern, the color washes covering the blooms lack the brilliance and definition of pigments used by 19th and early 20th century porcelain painters. I've added a detail below from a circa 1875 rose medallion warming dish for comparison. Note the more coherent green ground with arabesques formed of neatly hand-painted scrolling vines and more fully detailed blooms. The pattern for the ground on yours might have been applied by a rubber stamp, with enamels dabbed on top.

In sum, you have a presentable decorative product to enjoy in your home for years to come, but perhaps not enough years to earn it merit as a true antique and work of art.

Best regards,

Bill H.

Whether or not your vase is period (Qinglong) or not, nobody can say for sure based on the pictures you have provided - and should not claim to have the ability to do so. Upload a picture of the whole vase and another of the base, including the footrim and, if possible, a close shot of a portion of the footrim. This vase is definitely porcelain - the photograph of the mark clearly shows that - and judging from the enameling it is a style that is regularly copied by modern Chinese potters - so don't get your hopes up.

Dear friends,
It is my fault for not providing adequate info / images to help with evaluating the object ๐Ÿ™
Thanks so much onjsko for your time and expert opinion! I greatly appreciate your kind help and suggestion. I packed and stored the vase at the storage place along with several similar looking boxes, and these are the only currently available photos on my wifeโ€™s phone. One of these days I will make the trip to dig it out and will post more images ๐Ÿ˜Š
Best,
Tony

Dear friends,
I have not been able to make that trip yet, but I sorted through the photos and found a picture of a portion of the footrim that I took right before packing it up :)

The color theme resembles what I read online as Yangcai (?)

Not very impressed with this time-wasting game, Tony. One decent picture of your vase and the base in the first place would have told us all that it is mid-twentieth century. If I see your name again I will not be reading your posts.
