Subject:Large Wood Seal - Translation Help Please
Posted By: Julie Wed, Mar 25, 2020 IP: 2601:243:2180:9290:2

Hello, I have a large wood seal with characters I'm unable to translate. Could I please get some assistance? Included is a photo of a character carved onto the top by the handle. Could it represent the carver? Thank you so much! Julie

The single character 上 on the top the square is a directional mark. This way up.

The characters of the seal are 烈聖宮寶璽 - the treasure seal of the Lie Sheng Temple.

Mikeoz, please forgive my delay in sending my thanks. I'm so grateful for your help! I haven't been able to find any information about the Lei Sheng palace, but I'm continuing to look. Thank you, again! Julie

Seal inscription,
烈聖宮寶璽 - *Liesheng (Martyr's) Palace Imperial Treasure Seal

*Liesheng Palace; Name of the palace next to Wenwu

I stand corrected.

'Palace' not 'Temple'.

Thank you, I Nagy

Is that the temple at the top of the long stairs from Central?

Dear Mikeoz,
Let's close the thing with a Solomonic decision and let's call it in Cantonese Lit Shing Kung (烈聖宮)
It used to be a place for worship of gods.
That's right, it is at the top of the long stairs from Central,
Cheers,
I.Nagy

I.Nagy, please forgive my delay in sending my thanks. I'm so grateful for your help! I've searched the information you've provided without success but am continuing to look for the Leisheng Palace in Hong Kong. Thank you, again! Julie
