Your bowl appears to be one currently being offered on eBay as "doucai" and possibly Ming dynasty "Jiajing" period. At the outset, it isn't "doucai', the "contending colors", which in Jiajing times would have consisted of iron red, aubergine, yellow and green enamels, painted on top of an underglaze blue cartoon of the pattern. The design here appears to be laid down over a black design applied by transfer method, an early 20th century technology for China, and then overpainted in the aforementioned colors. At best, IMHO, it is a damaged piece of restaurant ware that dates no earlier than around the Republic period (1912-49), even though the base-mark appears to be a seal-script form of Qing (清), as in the dynasty.

Best regards,

Bill H.

Hi,you will notice that the dragon has three claws,a definite sign of Japanese origin and I stick with my previous attribution. It is not Chinese, check Kakiemon designs and colours on Google and you will see what I mean and also the threee claws which were only used by the Chinese in the very early ceramics particularly blue and white of the Yuan.

Oliver,
You are right, dragons with 3 claws are usually Japanese.
But in this case I really see a dragon with 4 claws, see picture.
Regards,
Martin.

Sorry to be insistent, but I still count four. Here's an enlarged and annotated image.
