Subject:Chinese Vase - PRC or Republic Period ? - and translation please !!
Posted By: Peter Fri, Feb 21, 2020 IP: 77.119.131.252

Hello,

I would appreciate the help of any experts amongst you in ascertaining whether the pictured vase is PRC or late Republic period The somewhat anonymous facial features leads me more towards the former of the two.
Also - a translation of the Chinese script would also be most welcome, and may possibly help in ascertaining an approximate date.

Many thanks, and best wishes,

Peter.

The large vase with female figure is cyclically dated to the summer of Jiazi (甲子) in the leading stack of small characters at the left side of the inscription. This date could be 1924 or 1984. I'm less certain whether there's a name among the remaining visible characters.

On the wine pot in your bottom photo, the inscription beginning to the right of the wine pot's spout, as seen, has a cyclical date that looks like the winter of Dingsi (丁巳), which equates to 1917. That is in fact during the early Republic Period, when Wang Peihui (汪佩辉), the artist named in the left-hand column, was known from online Chinese sources to have been painting wine pots like this one.

Best regards,

Bill H.

Hi Peter,
I believe your vase is from the PROC and circa 1960's-70's.
A picture of the base would confirm.

Hi Peter,
I may have been too hasty in my analysis of your vase.
Based on what Bill and Nagy have posted I would revise my earlier thought to the earlier date.
The lower quality of said threw me. That's why I asked for a picture of the base etc.
I do not know this artist. Tried Google without success.
