Posted By: Bill H Sat, Feb 15, 2020 I believe the artist who signed this dish may have been Wang Xingli (汪興藜), who along with his brother Wang Zhaoli (汪照藜), painted porcelain in the Qianjiang style circa the late Qing period, in this case apparently in the Guangxu reign (1875-1908). If anything, I'm more confused by the grassy and imperfect calligraphy than I. Nagy, but believe the penultimate line indicates that Wang painted or sketched the motif at the Changjiang guest lodgings (keci - 客次). Very little seems to be known about the Wang brothers, including their birth and death dates, according to one source I found. |
