Subject:Chang Dai-chien reproductive print?
Posted By: ed Sat, Feb 01, 2020 IP: 76.254.59.243

Ni hao,

I have what appears to be a reproduction print (feels like modern paper, retaped 3 times, now to a cardboard frame) - noticed his famous 'color splash' mountains

Removed it from a glass frame in order to reveal the writing hidden by the cardboard frame

In the first row, the last five characters appear to be Chang Dai-Chien (Zhang Daqian) signature? Is absence of a seal (Chop) normal?

Also would appreciate translation of the text.

(I have another painting which appears ancient/authentic, with the customary two seals - from my grandfather in Hong Kong)

TaiwanWebMuseum blog has a good article with examples of both his seal and signatures

Thank you for your time
Gong Hay Fat Chow!
Shir-shir ni!

Inscriptions,
Title,
可以横絶峨眉巓 -They should be able to pass through the summit of Mt.Emei (birds)
(Citation from Li Bai's "The Daunting Road into the Region of Shu")

Colophon,
六八年 囗六月沃囗摩耶精舎
1968、囗 June. Wo囗 at the Abode of Maya
八一叟爰 - 81 Years old man Yuan
(I can't decipher 2 characters in the colophon)

Otherwise, I can't answer the lack of seals either.

With regards,
I.Nagy

Thank you.
Lack of seals might indicate forgery?

in any case, its a nice copy/print
