The artist is Keisai Eisen (1790-1848). This print is part of a series 'Gokusaishiki sugata no utushi-e' (極彩色姿乃寫繪 - Richly-coloured {lantern} projections) published by Izumiya Ichibei in the 1820s.

Guy.

The artist is Keisai Eisen (1790-1848). I wasn't able to find your print online. but it is from the series Brilliantly Colored Portraits in Magic Lantern Slides (Goku saishiki sugata no utsushi-e) printed circa 1820.

Cheers,
Stan

Thank you Stan for that info. One other question. The fact that you can't find a copy on line is that good or bad? Does it make this print rare?

A number of prints that have show up here I haven't been able to find online. It just means that no museum or other owner has bothered to make their collections accessible online. I don't think it has any bearing on rarity.

Cheers,
Stan
