Posted By: antigone Sun, Jan 26, 2020 IP: 2a01:cb10:360:ef00:9

Hello,
I bought this painting told by Ganku but I don't know if it is him. It was in a box. I don't know if the writting on the box is the same than the artist one.
Thank you if you can help me to translate and to verify.
Sincerely
Antigone

Writing on the box,
作者:岸駒 - Artist; Ganku
品書;虎 - Name of ware; Tiger

Seal on the scroll reads,
可顴岸駒 - Kakan Ganku
(Kakan; one of his pseudonyms)

Ref. 日本書画落款印譜集成、柏書房 p. 252.
(Corpus of Japanese Painters' and Calligraphers' Signatures and Seals, Kashiwa Shobō
p. 252.)

With regards,
I.Nagy

Sealed 可観 (Kakan) and 岸駒 (Ganku) wich do refer to Kishi Ganku (1749-1839).

Impossible for me to state if this is an original or a copy. The authenticity of the seals will be determinative in the first place. Most of his paintings have a signature followed by seals.

Guy.

unfortunately this is not by ganku. it might have been sealed later to turn it into a forgery.
