I once read about a famous Japanese figure (a military man, maybe?) who painted a portrait of a visiting Western figure, possibly also a military man. Over the years, I've forgotten the details, but the painting had a somewhat traditional style to it. The subject had a typically Japanese stylized look to it, and seemed to convey a personality of jovial frivolousness, or maybe even absurdity. If anyone has an idea about the painting I'm trying to recall, please offer them in reply. Thank you.
