Subject:An Early Millefleurs Cloisonne Snuff Bottle
Posted By: Kevin Donnelley Mon, Jan 20, 2020 IP: 173.2.102.169 This bottle of compressed form shows multiple layers of both clear and colored enamel which were used to produce the coloration and highlights of the flowers. The layering of the enamels(glass) gives the dimension of depth to the artwork. The finish is smooth and very tactile when held w/ a few scattered pock marks. The interior and foot have the same speckled multi-color enamel finish. With the closeup, one may see the early character by the hand wrought wires. The thickness of the individual segments may vary from end to end. Both thick and thin wires were used in the display, as opposed to wires of equal width as w/the later 18th C examples. |
