Hi Everyone!

I'am hunting for treasures every free time, ín a last year I found an old japanese paper scroll painting. It's not a tipical paper scroll, there is ending a box with twoo parts. One of them contains a letter, with many stamps, the other side is bigger container with many ink stones. Please help me identficate theese items!

Thanks so much!

P.s. Dear Istvan Nagy, I have seen your helps for other, I speak hungarian, better than in eglish :)

Dear Janos,
Your scroll has turned out to be Chinese,
Inscriptions,
富貴一品
錦繍高繁華隊裏傲清寒
王炳氏
(Chrysanthemum is) The richest and highest in the splendid and highly bustling group (of flowers)
Proud cold and clear.
Master Wang Bing
Seals are not clear enough to read.

Wang Bing 王炳 Date of birth and death, origin unknown) - Qing dynasty court painter from the time of Emperor Qianlong.
I think your scroll doesn't look 200 years old !
In better case it could be a museum reprint.

Inscriptions on the insides of inkstick holder box,

墨池飛出北溟魚 筆鋒掃盡中山兎
From his brush pool jumped out the Northern sturgeon,
His sharp brush could eliminate the rabbits of Zhongshan Mountains

Two lines from Li Bai's poem titled "Song of the Cursive Script"

蘭亭繭紙入昭陵世間遺
墨猶雲騰
The "Orchid Pavilion" written on cocoon paper was buried in the Zhao Mausoleum, but the world is still longing for (Wang Xizhi's) soaring style

Two lines from a poem praising Wang Xizhi the famous 4.c. calligrapher. (Poet unknown)

The flimsy piece of creased paper is from the inkstick maker,

The beginnning;
唐墨官奚廷桂自易水渡江ト居徽城........
Ink master Xi Tinggui from the late Tang Dynasty crossed the Yangtse river from Yishing to settle down in Huicheng, where the locals just called him Huiren (the one from Anhui). Then he began producing inksticks there upon a secret recipe.........
Last line;
光緒甲辰 延桂堂主人譲
Guangxu Year of Dragon (1904) With the permission of the owner of Yigui-Tang (Name of maker)

Could be original, but you have to see carefully the inksticks themselves. To much creased certificates etc. are always fishy - particularly if they are Chinese.

Maradva tisztelettel,
Imre Nagy/ Tōkyo

Dear Imre Nagy, / Tisztelt Nagy Imre!

Many thanks for your helping! Hálásan köszönöm a szíves segítségét! At first I couldn't attached more pics from the whole scroll and the seals, and the the inksticks, but now I have been found the Way:) When I was checking the items, I have seen one of the inksticks (3rd. pics on the original message right under the letter) the style of the sword is tipically chinese, but I didn't know the chinese and japanese letters (I'm not sure of te direction of the third pics (letter). The scroll is covered by pure silk, thats really old, dried out and very broken, the color has been changed and became to dark a little. I have seen a lot of similar (I'm a restorer, but I work with pottery and porcelain, not with paper and textile) 1904 is good by the estate. Elnézést kérek a szörnyű angolomért! I Will send more pics.
Thanks again!
With best regards, János

I think that the ink-sticks are original, but damaged, hopefully from the end of 19th c. or early 20th c. Ink-sticks could be preserved well in boxes without any deterioration if they are kept in dry places.
Upper row,
...参時故讀際風.... In old days when reading, wind... - No maker's name found
胡愛棠監製 - Made under the supervision of Hu Aitang - Hu brand ink-sticks were famous in late Qing era with a number of factories. Till now, there are two factories well preserved, - one in Hungshan and the other Shexian county.
鑑瑩斎蔵 - Jianyingzhai-zhang - According to literature it was a product of the above Hu Aitang company.
Lower row,
寶鍔 - Bao'e (Treasure blade) - Famous brand of the Hu Kaiwen company, originally founded by Xi Tinggui (name on the creased paper label)

With regards,
I.Nagy

The scroll

Inscription,
房瑩靄 - Fang Ying Ai - Bedroom Good Omen -
In verbatim translation Bedroom Pink Mists
Seal,
鑑瑩斎 - Jianyingzhai
Same as the ink-stick manufacturing company.
I think that the scroll and the ink-sticks formed a wedding present set.

With regards,
I.Nagy
