Your shishi is Japanese, probably late 20th century and from the Kutani region, which may be reflected in the base-markings which I can't handle in Japanese. Here's a pair about 6.25 inches high with the mark a bit more readable, Kutani being the stack reading down on the right.

The mark on Bill H's lion is Kutani 九谷 - Hachiman 八幡 Gama 窯 (Hachiman kiln).
The name Hachiman is Sino-Japanese reading, sometimes it's found on the internet as Yahata (kiln) in native Japanese reading.

In the picture I show here, you see the same characters in the upper part of the mark as Bill's mark, the under part of my mark is the same as the under part of your mark: The name is Sueigi 須栄義 (or Sueiyoshi).
The upperpart of your mark is different, I can't decipher what it reads.
And Bill H was right, it is Kutani ware from the 1970's / 1980's.
