Subject:Japanese Teacup & Saucer
Posted By: BL Sun, Dec 22, 2019 IP: 69.86.17.79

Hi everybody,

I would like to know if this is Satsuma porcelain. Also the person who made it and it's approximate age. I wasn 't sure of the orientation of the characters so one photo has both. Thanks.

BL

The mark on the right is the correct way and reads:
Topline from right to left: Dai Nippon 大日本 (= Great Japan).
Right column: Satsuma 薩广 Kuni (or Koku) 国 (= Satsuma province), with shortened 2e Kanji 摩.
Left column: Hozan 寳山 Sei 製 (Made by Hozan).

Mark of Matsumoto 松本 Hozan.
I have no further information about this Satsuma artist.

Regards,
Martin.

Oops, forget to tell:
Meiji period 1880-1900.
