Subject:Republican (????) Vase
Posted By: Peter Wed, Dec 18, 2019 IP: 178.115.130.65

Hello everyone !

I've got the chance to acquire a Chinese vase which is supposedly from around 1920.

Being a novice, I would sincerely appreciate the opinion of the experts, based on the (hopefully!) attached pics.

Many thanks in advance !!!

Peter

In my opinion your vase is not from the Republic period. It is from the late 20th century, early 21st century.
The glaze is sugar white. The colours used are far too bright. The style and skill of the painter is too stiff. The thick black outlines indicate very modern.
In my opinion modern and worthless. Decorative value only.

A ditto for me on Mark's opinion. Your chickens have only recently hatched. Herewith some pictures of higher quality renditions of the rooster or cockerel pattern in late 19th-early 20th century Chinese wares. P.S., since I began cataloging my stuff years ago, the "double vases" have been determined probably to be tea (or wine) cups that hold hot water for warming in their bases.

Best regards,

Bill H.

Hi Bill,
Some very nice catalogued pieces from the tongzhi/later period.
I have like minded interest in porcelain from say 1865-1949.

Hi Mark,

Many thanks for taking the time to submit your comments on the vase.
I have carefully noted the points you mentioned, and am sure that they will be of use to myself (and indeed to other would-be collectors) when considering any future purchase.

May I also take this opportunity to wish you, your fellow experts, and the admin team the very best for Christmas, and a peaceful New Year.

Peter.
