Subject:Orihon
Posted By: GerryG Thu, Dec 12, 2019 IP: 84.203.135.247

I have the opportunity of purchasing a Japanese Ukiyo-e Orihon. I'd be interested if anyone can given me more information on the attached images, specifically the Kanji inscription.

Apologies in advance for the image quality. If better quality is required, let me know and I'll see what I can do.
Thanks. Gerry

Interestingly, artelino.com sold 2 of these over the years ($80 - 9/14/2008 and $120 - 8/7/2005) and identify the artist as Tomone Kobori.

Stan

Inscriptions,
於那須温泉祠畔 - Nasu Onsen-shihan ni oite -
In the Shrine of Nasu Onsen (Spa)
鞍箭圖 - Ansen-zu (Kura-Ya -zu) - Picture of Saddle and Arrows

Seal is too smudged to read

With regards,
I.Nagy

Hi Stan,

Thank for your picture search results, they helped me a lot to find the ultimate answer
As a result I have to revise my reading,

於那須温泉祠畔 - Nasu Onsen-shihan in oite -
At the Shrine of Nasu Onsen (Spa) -i.e. painted -
鞆音圖 - Picture of Tomoto
Seal.
弦迺舎 - Tsurunoya - Pseudomym
(I could identify it from the more clear seal print on the link which attributes it mistakenly to Suzuki Kason)

Kobori Tomoto 小堀鞆音 (The Tomone reading is not correct on the artelino site) 1864-1931

With regards,
I.Nagy

Thanks guys for your input. I also managed to check the 22 other prints within the Orihon on a very useful site, https://ukiyo-e.org/ which was able to find a match for most of them.
