Subject:Request your help translating writing on bronze container
Posted By: Roger Fri, Dec 13, 2019 IP: 2601:281:c202:b68a:9

Hi again!
Here's another nice Chinese (I think) bronze container. I would greatly appreciate any help in translating the mark on the base and any other info you might have on the piece. Thanks so much!
cheers!

Marking:
光緒年製 - Made During the Guangxu Reign

Guangxu, title of reign (1875-1908) of Aisin-Gioro Zaitian, 9th emperor of the Qing Dynasty. - His aunt
was the Empress Dowager Cixi.

I.Nagy,
I would greatly appreciate your help in translating the mark on the inside of the bronze cap. You already translated the mark on the bottom of the container to be "made in the reign of Guangzu".

Thank You!

Simply says,
古陶酒壇 - Old Tao wine-jug
伴我一生 - With me all my life

Correction,
古陶酒土云 Last character (compressed in one) = the simplified form of 壜 = jug
The above wording is a commercial slogan for the Tao brand wines
Furthermore, since the text is shifted to the lower right part as a whole, it may indicate that the copper plate might be a reused one.(Originally a part of an AD plaque for Tao wine)
The existence of simplified character seems to be
an evidence that the reused copper plate itself is much more younger than the indicated reign name. In addition, the inscription texts in the past were written from right to left and not from left to right.
Simply put, it's a fake.

With regards,
I.Nagy
