Posted By: Dana Sat, Sep 05, 2020 Hi - you responded to my original request for a translation. You stated the translation was Li Shouzi. I can't find any meaning for that. Can you provide any more info regarding Li Shouzi? Is that artist name? Thank you! |

Posted By: Bill H Sun, Sep 06, 2020 That is a Chinese name, with surname 'Li/李' (plum) and given name 'Shouzhi.守治' ('To guard' & 'to govern', wherein I've humbly changed the Cantonese pronunciation 'zi' to the Mandarin 'zhi') and finally the verb 'Ke/刻' ('Carved'). However, just as you don't go about telling new acquaintances the literal meanings of you given and surname, neither do Chinese, except in cases where multiple surnames have similar pronunciations. Then a Chinese would state the literal meaning to clarify which character is involved. But to the average Chinese, all the preceding information would be overkill. |
