Subject:miniature deer handles porcelain vase, he xuren(?) marked?
Posted By: Stefanie Riedel Wed, Nov 13, 2019 IP: 2003:cf:ff47:2000:99

I have a miniature deer handles vase, the height is
9,9cm or 3.875 inch.

The snow mountain painting looks like the style of He Xuren. The marks says Xu Ren too on the bottom side, if I read correctly?

Now I want to know if this could be a vase from the Artist He Xuren or is it an item in the style of this artist?
The wooden base stand belongs not to the vase.

I have found two miniature deer handles vases from He Xuren, they are original, but 3cm higher (5.1 inch height)(found on artnet)
A small picture I do include in the following post, I can not compare these for myself.

Maybe someone could help me? Thank you very much!

Please do not buy these!
They are definetly not by the master He Xuren. They are modern copies of low-end quality.
This artist along with other members of the famed eight friends of zushan are widely copied atm in china. Most are low quality, however some I have seen are of or even better quality than the master's.
If you have a chance have a look at a plaque sold at a recent NY sale by sotheby's by the said Master. The quality is outstanding and the price was imo very reasonable.

Here are some other pictures and the one from the Artists original:

I also found two or three very small items listed on auctions as originals where the signature is the same, price is between 600 and 1800. But there could also be a probability that these are not originals.

Thank you very much for your answer! The last post by me I have written earlier than yours.
I have bought it already, but for a very low price! I love tiny vases, but just want to know exactly what it is. So I will keep them with this knowledge.

In today's market you will not be able to purchase genuine pieces by this master for the prices quoted in your post. They will bring much much more!
I don't believe that the first 2 pictures in your last post are by the master. The other 2 maybe. Too difficult to tell since the picture is blurry.
When one is looking at works by He Xuren one must carefully examine if the painting style, subject, style of calligraphy (very important as even top copies often fail to copy properly) and lastly if the seal stamps are correct.
Most provincial auction house sell later tributes etc.
For genuine pieces for study/other one must look at Sotheby's, Christie's and Bonhams.
However, with the above auction houses they too do often sell tributes (not deliberate copies). If the artist/period is not mentioned on the title of the lot and or not in bold within the description then it is probable that it is an attribute.

Hi!

I just wanted to tell you some things I have fount out by a close look to the vase.

There is something what looks like net, and it is enamel painted over. I know transfer prints and similar prints, but this is a little bit strange. Just dark little spots which are transferred.
I have compared with originals, they do not have such a "net" and finally, I think it could not from the Artist.

Thank you for replying and many greetings! Stefanie
:)

No worries.
I was just reviewing your listing with a new (larger) screen and noticed something that I had omitted in my posts.
The animal handles look like blobs. On original ones by said master the handles will always be life like.
