Subject:Help reading scroll signature
Posted By: Willie Howard Fri, Nov 08, 2019 IP: 71.10.236.201

I believe the signature on this scroll might read Koryusai. I have compared it to a painting in the Art Institute of Chicago:
https://www.artic.edu/artworks/8900/beauty-beneath-a-willow-tree?page=17&version=meter+at+null&module=meter-Links&pgtype=article&priority=true&action=click&contentCollection=meter-links-click

It seems close, but I am wondering what the characters at the upper right of the signature might say. Also the seal seems unreadable and I haven't been able to find any with a comparable shape.
Any help would be appreciated.

Willie

Signature reads,
湖龍斎 - Koryusai
Inscription on the upper right (Title)
大和法司 - Yamato-hōshi - Japanese minstrel

However, the seal is not very common.

With regards,
I.Nagy

Thank you very much for the translation of the inscription and confirmation of the name. I very much appreciate you taking the time.
It seems that the title may have been added at a later time. It looks to have a different thickness and appearance to me. I was just wondering if you might have had the same feeling about this.

Oops, -I forgot the last character in the signature
湖龍斎圖 - Koryusai-zu - Picture of Koryusai
Cheers,
I.Nagy
