Subject:Treatment of Buddha's eye in sculpture
Posted By: serene buddha Tue, Nov 05, 2019 IP: 2600:8805:8005:8400:

In the case of these Buddha statues, both possible from the North Eastern China during the sixth century, the treatment of the eye is very different. (Referring to the outer canthus of the eye) In the first Buddha, the upper lid wraps over the lower lid on the outside where the eyelids meet. This junction is similar to the eyes found in the depiction of Nefertiti. In the second Buddha, it does not.

Does the treatment of the eye relate to the sex, female or male. In her depiction of herself, Wu Zetian (the only female Emperor of China) in the Longmen Grottoes, she is depicted with both “types” of eyes.

Is there any comments regarding these observations, I am very interested.
