Subject:Song dynasty ru kiln vessel 960-1279
Posted By: Kevin Fri, Oct 18, 2019 IP: 2607:fb90:3813:53a8:

Hello. I have a ru kiln vessel from the Song dynasty. The vessel stands at about 34cm tall and is wide. At the bottom of the vessel there are no spur Mark's and the vessel changes colors in different shades of light.
Can anyone give me feed back on this vase?

Here are more pictures. I need to know the provenance of the vessel.

You have the piece. If you don't know its provenance, what internet stranger will?

Seems like a recent fantasy piece to me. I don't see any aspects about it that duplicate known ru pieces, many of which are in the National Palace Museum, Taiwan. The particular profile of this meiping was did not exist when ru ware was made. The brown biscuit (or dressing?) does not appear on ru ware. Nor do known examples of ru ware show any of the patchy mixture of glaze and whatever contaminant has yielded the effect that appears on its base.

Sir, the glaze has small Crystals in the glaze and have a texture to it. And there where ru vessels without the spur Marks.

What recent or modern ru peices have you seen that look like this and what modern ru vessel have you seen that have a texture to its glaze and changes colors in different shades of light from a sky-blue to a pond whater green color? Just asking.

Here is another vessel from my collection. What about this one?

And for the paches on the base, that comes from it being in the ground for a very long time.

Must agree with the other comments.I think you are living in fantasy land Kevin.Do you know how many genuine complete Ru pieces there are known to exist about 100 I believe and you own this many; come on.They were only made for a very short period in the year 1100.

Your point? You don't seem to know much about the ru kiln. These vases were got from the area where the site were, ruzhou city, henan province, China. They were in the ground along time ago. Look closely at the vessels, you will see soil seeps and contraction marks. Find me a modern ru piece any where that looks like the ones that I have. I can tell a fake from the real thing and other experts can too. Modern ru ware dont look like this, and there are not only 100 genuine ru pieces known to exist, That is not true.

Kevin,

Could you send me a message so we can discuss your ru collection?

Since ru ware was always mistaken as guan ware, this is a guan ware vase that stands 9 inches tall. This must be fake too, right.

Look at the texture of the glaze.

To clear up the confusion because the other two are convinced that these are not "real" ru vessels because they are not in the National Palace Meusem or that there are only less than 100 intact ru pieces in the world, these pieces are not from the imperial government kiln, these are from the folk kiln of the Song dynasty. There are only less than 100 imperial ru pieces in the world. That includes private collections, other museums and the National Palace Museum. Folk ru ware are very rare as well. That should clear things up.
