Subject:Nude Chinese/Japanese watercolour
Posted By: richard Fri, Oct 04, 2019 IP: 2a00:23c6:fc08:2601:

Could anyone please tell me what the 2 red stamps on this black and white water colour mean?

A very basic, but at the same time quite impressive (what looks like orignal) black and white water colour.

Again thank you for any replies.

Kind Regards to all, readers and posters.

Richard

There were artists painters photographers visited China had their seals carved. I have few of these because of the stone quality. This one is Elisa Bell.

I am not sure with the first seal, I read it
戴 - Dai
The second one reads,
伊沙貝爾 - Isabelle
Based on the name usage the artist might be a Taiwanese or Hong Kongese.

With regards,
I.Nagy

How very interesting!!! I had never thought of the idea of an(y) artist being able to have their seal made, meaning the painting does not necessarily have to be of Chinese or Japanese origin, just because it has a Japanese or Chinese Seal.

I did find "an" artist with the above name in Australia via Google. Kindly enough she wrote back to me, to say this painting was not one of hers!

My search continues and regarless if I find the original artist or not, it is a lovely well executed painting in my opinion.

Thank you both for your input. Much appreciated.

Richard

As an aside and that bargains can still be found out there, have a read about this £1.00 Charity shop find. It is going to auction next month!
