Subject:Flower Bowl Japanese - Need help please
Posted By: Michelle Gray Sun, Sep 22, 2019 IP: 2600:1700:a3a1:4010: Can someone please translate the mark on the back of this lovely bowl. And if you know what period this would be from. Thanks so much for your help! |

Posted By: Tom Aspden Sun, Sep 22, 2019 Your bowl is what is known as satsuma ware, made during he Edo, Meiji, Taisho, and other consecutive periods in the 20th century. This one, with the mark saying 'Shuzan' I believe, beneath the 'shimazu' family crest. I personally do not know much of this artist, but I would estimate that your bowl was produced during the Taisho period (so 1912-26) based on the style. Hopefully my suspicions will be confirmed by others on this forum, but I feel fairly certain about them. |

Posted By: Michelle Tue, Sep 24, 2019 Thank you for your answer! So is this most likely Meiji period? I'm asking because someone responded that it was Tashio period. Is there a way to determine the date? Thanks so much. |
