Subject:A Willow pattern plate from Arita or Nanking?
Posted By: Luciano Tue, Oct 01, 2019 IP: 193.204.90.105

Hello,
I have purchased the Willow pattern plate you can see in the attached pictures: the seller tells it is from China, Nanking, but I think it is from Arita. Who is right? The size is 21 cm and there are no marks on the back.
Thanks a lot for your kind attention and best regards,
Luciano

P.S.
Both we think it is from the XVIIIth...

Japanese Arita, the small bumps on the bottom are typically Japanese, not found on Chinese porcelain. Has to do with the way the Japanese fired their porcelain.
Perhaps others can tell you more about more typical Japanese characteristics.
Regards,
Martin.

Just a point of accuracy. This is not a willow pattern plate. The 'willow' pattern contains a number of specific items - the bridge with the two people, the two swallows, and other aspects that conform with the supposed story of the design.

This is a general landscape, similar in style and execution to that seen in the Kitchen Qing crockery.

Hello Mike,
thank you for your clarification. I have understood and you are absolutely right.
So this dish is a kind of kitchen Qing crockery, but from Japan not China.
Best regards,
Luciano
