Subject:Help identifying watercolor or litography ?
Posted By: Peter Sat, Aug 24, 2019 IP: 78.108.97.33

Good morning/afternoon,

could somebody help me, what is this ?

I think it is watercolor or litography.
Probably it is on the handmade paper.

It is under glass so I can not closure look.

In the left corner, there is number ten.

Is it part of some story ?

I only found out on Internet it is Tennyo/Apsara.

Best regards,

Peter

This is a photomechanical print, even on my screen I can see the halftone dot pattern.

No, this is just a print from a normal printing press, most likely a page from a book

Hello again,

I found this: Dunhuang Mural Painting

I am enclosing webpage translated by Google and original link to the webpage.

I think I have one of that sheets, because
I have the same dimension as they write it there.

Also I put mine out of the framed glass and the paper looks very quality. Can be rice paper.

I believe your prints may be similar to some that I.Nagy identified for us recently as watercolor block prints (link). I have a pair, one of which is identical to one that's shown at the link. The other is from the same series but is still in the frame, which blocks the series number. I took it for granted that the well formed imprint with series information at the bottom signified that the rest also was printed. The elegantly dressed female figure is Songzi Nyang Nyang, the Chinese goddess who oversees childbirth. The male figure is an earth god, called Tudi Ye, the venerable god of the place.

Best regards,

Bill H.
