Subject:Antique Buddha Statue - Help Identify Please
Posted By: Charles Tue, Jul 16, 2019 IP: 2602:306:bdf7:d750:2

I recently acquired this Buddha statue from a family member’s estate. It was purchased at an antique shop in Kyoto, Japan in the 1950s. At the time of purchase it was described as “very old” by the seller. It stands approximately 7” tall and is 7” in diameter at the base. It weighs approximately 6 lbs. It is seamless and there are no markings. It is non-magnetic, so assumption is that it is brass or bronze. I have researched the net but have yet to find one of the same likeness. Any information or guidance on where I may obtain an explanation of it’s origins is very much appreciated

It's not a buddha but Bodhidharma an Indian buddhist monk(483-540).He founded the Chan school in China which gave birth to Zen in Japan.
Your statue seems Chinese and of the XIXth century or earlier.Beautiful and powerful representation of Bodhidharma.
