Subject:Yixing tea pot - text translation?
Posted By: margaret gaerig Thu, Jul 11, 2019 IP: 2603:9009:70e:d900:d A decade ago, I purchased this Yixing tea pot from a vendor who listed it as an "old natural form pottery tea pot" (measuring 6-3/4"W x 6"L x 4"W or 17.15cm x 15.2om x 10.16cm). The maker's great skill in forming and design is evident, but it seems the piece may have had a purpose beyond serving tea. In addition to seals on the bottom and the inside of the top, one side of the pot is incised with 9 columns of text. Might this have been a commemorative teapot, a special gift to honor the recipient or commemorate an event? I would appreciate any insight into age or translation that this group would be willing to provide (I will attempt to provide a range of photos in a series of posts)... |
