Posted By: Bill H Sun, Jul 14, 2019 As was mentioned by a commentator to your post last year, this piece appears to be a component of an oil lamp. The rounded bottom probably once sat in a porcelain base of some sort for stability. Here's a link to a European version of such a lamp. Like yours, it looks to have accommodated a metal screw-on holder for the wick and a glass chimney. I'd think this item might date circa the mid-19th century, if for no other reason than the hawthorn pattern is so carefully painted with the spiny branches and fruit clusters. |
