You don't bother to show the item that bears it, but this is a Japanese monopoly patent mark (shown 90-degrees right of reading position). It was issued in Japan during the Meiji Period to the entrepreneur Takeuchi Chubei and is typically found on Coralene vases exported by him. When rotated 90-degrees left, it would be read across in the two lines from the top right.

The embedded link below provides information on Takeuchi Chubei and his products, while the other link provided immediately below for pasting in your browser shows a pair of vases with a mark like yours but read from the top left and across.

I'm sure someone besides me would also like to see your item with this mark. After all, the forum is supposed to promote an information exchange on Asian art.

Many thanks Bill and Martin for your speedy replies. My apologies for photographing the marks from the wrong direction.
These vases were inherited from my grandmother in the 1960's and have sat in a display cabinet since then ... waiting until I could find out more about them. The 'Net is amazing in that I have received the information I needed in such a short time after asking.
I will attempt to post photos of the rest of these items, my original pics are larger than the website allowed.
Thanks again, Ngaire (New Zealand)

The mark reads: Tokkuyo 特許 2252515 二二五二五一五 (all from left to right), meaning: Patent 2252515, see my picture with the same signature.

It's a mark of Takeuchi Chubei (1852-1922).

The patent was for his Coralene or Sharkskin (Ishime Yaki), which was produced for a relatively short period in the late 19th century. The patent number 2252515 stands for the 5th month of Meiji year 22 (1889) and valid for 15 years. Takeuchi also signed most of the Sharkskin work with: Takeuchi, Takeuchi Sei, or Takeuchi Zo and with the patent number. These patent marks came into use circa 1885, after the establishment of the first Japanese Patent Office. So these markings probably date from 1889 till 1904.

It's a pity you didn't show a picture of the vase itself, because these vases are quite beautiful IMO.

Regards,
Martin.
