Posted By: Robert Bortner Sat, Jun 08, 2019 IP: 71.227.217.171

Can anyone help with this Satsuma mark? My kanji is horrible and other then the Shimazu crest, I have not been able to crack it.

I would really appreciate any help. Thanks!

Just a little extra to rat's reply.
It reads: Hinode Shōkai (日出商會)
Exporter of porcelain and antiques between cca.1887-1904.

With regards,
I.Nagy

The mark reads Hinode 日出 Shokai 商會.

In November 1876, Toyo Morimura, Chushichi Date and Momotaro Sato established the retail store "Hinode Shokai" in a partnership at 6th Street, New York.
In 1878, Toyo started his own business and established "Hinode Shokai Morimura Brothers" for exporting Japanese antiques and miscellaneous goods.
In 1881, the company altered the corporate name from "Hinode Shokai Morimura Brothers" to "Morimura Brothers" for exporting pottery and porcelain ware. In 1899, Toyo Morimura died.
In 1904 it became known as the Nippon Toki Kaisha in Tokyo, which became later the foundation of the Noritake company.

Regards,
Martin.
