The central medallion, which I believe is shown upside-down in both views, is a stylized form of the "Longevity" character "Shou" (壽). As to the creatures, there appears to be a Phoenix beneath the Shou medallion, as shown in the first view. To the left of the Phoenix, there may be a Qilin, or Chinese Unicorn, but identification is difficult for lack of a full view. To the right of the Phoenix is a Peony plant I believe. At least a couple of dragons also are seen.
This may be a box for red ink paste used on carved personal or other name seals, aka "chops".
