Subject:Chinese Bowl - Qing markings - Celadon appearance
Posted By: Beege Fri, May 24, 2019 IP: 2.127.81.96

Hallo all.

As I (slowly) learn, my cynicism grows; so I suspect this is a modern bowl (approx 17cm diameter, 5cm tall) which may well be decorated with transfers.

The colour has a Celadon appearance with light crazing throughout. The dragons appear darker on the interior of the bowl than they do on the exterior. The bowl is sturdy, undamaged and well marked. The bowl has a slight unevenness about it which I think gives it some charm.

This is my first attempt at identifying (some markings), so can somebody confirm the markings 'imply' the Qing Dynasty?

If Qing, which Emperor do the markings suggest?

Do the markings identify the maker?

Does anyone have a view on the age of this bowl?

Thank you for any help you can offer.
Jack

IMO thus bowl is late 20th century. The detail is lacking, almost blob like in some areas. Also the spikes on the dragons are pointing mostly up and not fluid with the curving. A sure sign that it is modern.

Mark: Da Qing Kangxi Nian Zhi (Great Qing dynasty Kangxi Period Make).

For age, see the Mark Adams comments.

Martin.

Thank you Mark/Martin, much appreciated.
It is very much as I suspected, but I should be keen to understand what it is you, Mark, see which clearly identifies the contemporary nature of this piece. Is there something glaringly obvious which I fail to recognise, or does it simply 'come down to' experience?
Regards
Jack.
