Posted By: Hannah Mon, May 20, 2019 IP: 73.166.95.202

Hello! I recently acquired this really interesting bronze head sculpture and I'm trying to figure out who it is a sculpture of. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I believe this may be a Khmer-style bust of the Sakyamuni Buddha. I have vague memories of seeing similar items in Mekong River marketplaces I visited during the Vietnam War years. It could be that they were being made in Thailand, which has a Khmer thread or two in its own history. Several types of similarly mounted Buddha busts in Thai and Lao styles were popular souvenirs among Military personnel assigned to and transiting Thailand during that period.

Best regards,

Bill H.
