The mark reads down beneath the Shimazu family crest as "Satsuma" (薩摩). Perhaps others are confident of their ability to date a piece of pottery accurately from only a look at its bottom. My humble guesstimate would be 19th century Meiji export period or later, after the Meiji Emperor had fractured the Satsuma Fiefdom among several provinces, making gotheborg.com's wizards and some others of us think that no Satsuma ruler ever ordered a piece marked like this. In any event, to try to date it for you would sorta be like trying to inspect the horse's teeth from the hind end.

The mark simply reads: Satsuma 薩摩.
Dating this vase with only the bottom and this mark is impossible.
Regards,
Martin.

Satsuma Yaki under the Shimazu crest. Doesn't look very old and made of porcelain but there is no photo of the vase.

Thanks for your responses. Sorry I only had picture of the bottom. Here's some of the vase itself. It's about 14 inches tall.

Perhaps a late 20th century Chinese pastiche. I'll leave it to the Japanese experts from here.
