Posted By: Bill H Thu, Apr 25, 2019 This is a late Qing or Republic imperial style "Minyao" (popular kiln) dragon bowl with an apocryphal mark of "Made during the Kangxi Reign" (Kangxi Nian Zhi - 康熙年製). The dragon scales appear to be drawn in a naturalistic manner, which is typical of the Kangxi period (1662-1722). However, I infer from the Mainland China-published "Compendium of Historical Porcelain Markings" that Kangxi period underglaze blue marks of four characters like the one on your bowl, while rare to begin with, usually were placed either in square borders or double circles. Bowls marked like yours were common during and after the Guangxu Period (1875-1908). |
