國色天香 - National beauty and heavenly fragrance (Peony)
摸宋人 - Imitation of Song (Dynasty painters)
- Anonymous painter
-The character 摸 is the original form of the
variant character written on the picture. It cannot displayed by PC -

With regards,
I.Nagy

Greetings I. Nagy,

The variant character "摹" for "imitation" is in the Unicode/Unihan data base as U+6479 with pinyin given as "mó" and meanings "trace, copy, duplicate; pattern". It's also No. 4588 in my Mathews CED with pinyin indicated to be "mú".

The "(a)" subheading under "摸" in Mathews provides the following:

"To trace, for which 摹 No. 4588 generally is used.

摹本 a traced copy."

Looks to me like a matter of mostly insignificant semantical differences.

Best regards,

Bill H
