Subject:Chinese plate charger
Posted By: Gemma Gregory Mon, Feb 25, 2019 IP: 176.35.250.78

Hi I have this very nice Chinese plate and i am interested in finding out more about it, i.e. The age of the piece. I bought it from a local auction. I'm not interested in the value as I want to keep it but it would be wonderful to know it's age if it's possible to tell

This Chinese dish, probably 19th or early 20th century, has what looks probably to be a form of the "Om" pattern, consisting of a circular repetition of a simplified version of the Sanskrit character "Om"' It is the basis of liturgical chants used in both Buddhist and Hindu rituals. See the link below, in which you can scroll down a bit for additional information and a photo of a teacup in the pattern. I've also included images of a small jar of mine, 4.25 inches high with lid, in the same pattern.

Best regards,

Bill H.
