I believe this is a chinese rhino horn carving.

Its likely that it is carved rino horn. Im personally unaware of any imitation materials that are this convincing. I cant speak for its exact age but I would be confident in saying prior to the 20th century.

Sorry to disagree, but in my opinion this is a low grade horn carving typically to be found today in the markets of Asia.
Probably of bovine origin, maybe water buffalo?,it is the wrong shape and quality to be rhino.
