It's circa late 19th-early 20th century Jingdezhen ware with a faux Ming Chenghua mark.

Best regards,

Bill H.

Thanks Bill.

How can I see the difference between a genuine and a faux Ming Chenghua mark?

Best regards,

Werner

You're looking at the difference on the base of this jar. As far as I know, iron red pigment wasn't used for Chenghua period marks, and stamped-on marks like the one on this jar weren't used until the Qing dynasty's Tongzhi reign (1862-74). However, hand-written iron-red reign and popular kiln-marks were used for most of the Qing period.

You can Google the term "Chenghua" along with the name of any reputable auction house like Christie's or Sotheby's and should get hits on auctions of authentic Chenghua mark & period porcelains. Sorry, but I'm fresh out of 'em myself.

Best regards,

Bill H.
