Posted By: Tracey Sun, Jan 06, 2019 IP: 73.17.175.239

Hi, I was wondering if anyone could tell me if this piece is Chinese, older and ivory? Its approx 3"H x 3.5L. It is attached to wooden stand. Thank you

Judging by the grain it appears to be genuine ivory.
I would think this carving judging by the two Caucasian boys would be European and would likely date to early 20th Century.
Is this something you own OE looking at to buy, if I may ask?
Nice carving overall.
Mark

Mark, Thank you so much for your response. I do own it. I've never seen one like this before. Would you know where I could find more information on this, in terms of value, what part of Europe this would have been made from, etc.. Thank you again

Hi Tracey,
In terms of value at auction perhaps in the region of US$500.
The price of I ivory has in most recent times slumped due to the growing world wide backlash to owning ivory and trade in said etc.
I am not sure where you could go for further information as to where it was actually made. Difficult without signature given the nature of the carving. Very subjective. If signed normally at base.
If you have access to a museum or major auction auction house in your area they may be able to offer you more assistance.
Just bear in mind that the trade in Ivory is closing in. A number of auction houses large and small are refusing to consign ivory.
Hope thus helps you,
Mark
