Subject:Painting on paper

We received this wig no information other than it can from a catholic priests house in Michigan.
If anybody can provide some info or resources to contact it would be appreciated.
It does seem to be high quality!

Hello Nick
Its nothing to do with me of course but I find it strange any catholic priest wanting to keep Japanese art. When the Spanish and Catholic missionary's were literally thrown out of Japan under the penalty of death in 1680 not a single priest set foot in Japan until the Meiji period after repeated and ignored complaints from the Vatican. Until this day there are only 100k Catholics in Japan asking the question why this priest would have this art on his wall. The Vatican has a big axe to grind with Japan historically speaking even though the shogunate saw the danger and rightly kicked them out. Best wishes D

From what I have researched so far I believe this is a painting of Zhuge Liang, a famous Chinese advisor. For that reason I am assuming this is Chinese.

This is not a Japanese painting. It is Chinese. The Catholic priest would have identified with the person in the picture as he is recognised as someone of great loyalty and integrity.

The subject is the Han dynasty official ZhuGe Liang 諸葛亮 (you can look him up yourself. I don't need to tell you his story here)

The artist is Hu Zheng Wei 胡正偉.
