Posted By: Bill H Sun, Dec 23, 2018 On Wang Dafan (王大凡 - 1888-1961) period works, this basemark in seal script actually was meant to be read in four characters as "Xi Ping Cao Lu" (希平草廬) - "Thatched hut with a hope for peace", which was Wang's studio name. Wang was best known for figural paintings, whereas one of his early contemporaries, He Xuren (何許人 - 1882-1941) was the master of snow-covered landscapes. This suggests to me that this dish may be a modern attribution to Wang. |

Posted By: Kevin Sherlock Mon, Dec 24, 2018 Well I must say I'm a bit embarrassed. My memory and record keeping are failing. No wonder when the Wang Dafan name came up it sparked a single neuron in my head. Sorry to waste your time repeating yourself. |
