Subject:Identification of Print/Painting
Posted By: Lance W Frazer Mon, Nov 05, 2018 IP: 2601:204:4001:3df5:4

Please forgive the quality of this photo. It's hanging on a wall in a local gallery, and on hold for me. I can't find the image elsewhere, and am hoping for identification help.

The piece is large, about 18 x 24, framed in an older wooden frame (at a guess, early 1900s). Part of a pair of the same lady, each slightly different. Appears to be gouache, but I can't be sure. No visible signature, so I'm posting this in the hope that someone will recognize the image or style. Many thanks.

Hard to tell from the photo, but this could be a painting on glass, which is executed in much the same way as an inside painted snuff bottle. The paint is applied in the reverse order to the way it would have been done on paper.

I think mikeoz is right on this. for other examples search on "reverse glass export". this one is not the best quality; they are also imitated/faked though that was pretty unusual in the past since Chinese collectors weren't interested in these
