Subject:Robed Man with Animal Face Zodiac Statue Blue White Porcelain

Hello,
This has been quite an interesting adventure learning about this Zodiac Statue.
I am trying to determine how old it is. There is residue from an old label on the back.
Unmarked.

Also, I am not sure what animal this is. Sheep? Ram? Goat? I couldn't get anything exactly the same from the robed character.

I was surprised that I found only one that was similar to mine, but it ended in a dead end.

辰　-　Chen (Chinese) Tatsu (Japanese) = Dragon
It doesn`t look really old.

I'm afraid I can only add to the confusion.

The character in the Mon-like decoration to the figure's robe is 辰, which is one of the characters that denote one of the particular animals of the Zodiac.

But where I would expected it to be that of say the ram or even the ox - it is that of the dragon. And the figure has little of the dragon in appearance.

Yes, I am even more confused than ever. Here is some background from the people from whom I purchased this figure.
Three generation Chinese family. I was looking at their collection and I was surprised I recognized so many figures. When I asked what this was, the immediate response was, "sheep." There was no mention of Zodiac. When I asked how old it was, the response was, "old, not antique." A lot of broken English in this conversation.

So, here's a thought that came to mind.
Is it possible that the dragon character refers to the Dragon Year of the Zodiac? And since we agree it is not that old, that it could be the 1980's year of the Dragon?

Here's a link to a Live Auctioneer result for a set of such "vintage" zodiac figurines. Its dragon is just slightly more recognizable than yours. The hammer price for all 12 was $170, or about US$14 apiece, which isn't all that bad, considering those figurines and yours all have a more or less median quality of transfer decoration. However, nobody is apt to sniff at the piece if you put it on display.
