Subject:Japanese (I think) Teapot - two marks + inscription
Posted By: Jack Sun, Nov 04, 2018 IP: 90.208.98.105

Hallo all.
This is a ceramic, small (3.5" tall x 5" wide) teapot which has a floral design on one side and Japanese characters on the other. There is a makers mark on the bottom and a smaller mark (partly rubbed) on the inside of the lid.
Can anyone please help me interpret the marks to identify maker and probable date?
Thank you.

This is a typical YiXing teapot from the Jiangsu province in China. The potter's name is Shao Yu (something) - 邵玉(?)

I couldn't find this potter's name in the lists I have but there are several potters with the family name Shao in YiXing.

I think the third character is Qin 琴。

Yielding a potter's name of 邵玉琴

Google images has a couple of her pots.

Thank you Mikeoz, much appreciated.
Presumably there is no way to age this teapot without identifying the specific potter?
What impressed me about this pot is its simplicity and the remarkable close fit of the lid.
Jack
