Subject:Bronze censor translation help
Posted By: John A. Wed, Oct 31, 2018 IP: 67.189.4.207

Any opinion on what it reads and if it is old or a newer reproduction would be appreciated like always. Asian antiques have always fascinated me and while I get older I find myself being drawn more and more in(especially porcelain). Its a history lesson in itself. This forum has been a wealth of knowledge to a novice like me!! Thanks for taking the time to help us.

玉堂清玩 - Yutamg Qing Wan - Purity of Jade Hall Play

According to Chinese web-sites this name itself is passed down to Ming Dynasty times,
but there are no censers existing with this name older than Qing era.

I think your three-legged two-ear copper incense burner is just a recent copy of the Qing originals.

With regards,

Thank you for your insight as it is always appreciated. How would I be able to tell a Qing Dynasty original from a more modern reproduction? I got this one from a local auction but after looking back on the $200 I paid for it was not one of my good buys. I am just curious if their is a way to tell by the seal? I understand the ming mark did not exist and has been put on way after but how can I tell or at least narrow it down. Any info once again helpful:)
