Subject:Old gift of my grandfather
Posted By: Nina Sun, Oct 28, 2018 IP: 2a02:810d:1380:2cc0:

Hello :) Someone recommended this group to me, because I searched in a Facebook-Group about an old gift of my grandfather.
I have this mini vases in my bedroom, since I was born and I would never sell them. But I'm interested where they could be from. Is it a typical tourist shop thingy or is it a special kind of vase? Would be glad for any suggestion about it. :)

There is no stamp or number on them.

Thank you very much!

Without a stamp, I can't really help with a date / maker (although I'm sure there are people much more knowledgeable than me who could). I would say, however, that they definitely seem to be Japanese in style, and if they were a product made for tourists they seem to be very well done (I would lean towards maybe export market and sold overseas instead of sold to tourists in Japan). If I had to make a guess, I would say that they seem maybe early 20th C (1910-1940), though I could be wrong...

Japanese rather than Chinese I think, on the basis of their shape, which appears in Japanese porcelain, as well as the varying tones in the smaller one. I've never seen a Chinese urns like this either. They do seem a bit on the touristy side

I'm pretty sure they are Japanese, because there is Mt. Fuji to be seen on them and he has often been in Japan.
