Subject:Calligraphy Couplet on Floral Painting
Posted By: Myra Wed, Oct 03, 2018 IP: 77.170.249.58

Dear connoisseurs,
for obvious reasons, this (reproduction of a) paining caught my attention in a local secondhand shop. Since that day, its figures hide (assumably) a poem for me.
It all depends on YOU whether I will learn the meaning of the calligraphy couplet and know its author... please, help me.

Sincere thanks & greetings,
Myra

Inscriptions,
不誇四子錦為幄
肯道大真雲想衣
Do not boast the four sons in brocade
The path is more serious than think about robes

Citation from the Song dynasty poet Huang Tingjian 黄庭堅 1045-1105 (Remnant sentences, 殘句)

山谷句 - Shangu (Pseudonym of Huang Tingjian)sentences
丙申十一月寫 - Year of Fire-Monkey (1956) November
於首都 半丁老人 - in the capital, by the Old Man Banding

Unfortunately the two seals under the signature are not clear to read

Leisure seal (Left bottom corner) reads,
美意延年 - Good intentions prolong life

Chen Banding 陳半丁 1876-1970
Born in Shanyin (Shaoxing),Zhejiang
Was a student of Wu Changshuo

With regards,
I.Nagy

Dear Nagy,
Thank you for providing me with a translation plus name of the poet; it's been very helpful.
I wonder whether the '4 brocade robes' refer to the 4 seasons..
Since you are so well-informed, I will post a clearer picture of the other 2 seal marks this evening. Highly appreciate your help so far.
Thanks, and best,
Myra

Dear Nagy,
Hereby a picture of the 2 seal marks. Hopefully clear enough to see what it means. Thank you so much for taking time to respond.
