The mark reads 'Qing' 清

In my opinion, this vase is stylistically of Japanese origin. The swirls are meant to emulate a Chinese-style famille jaune genre scene on sgraffito ground.

Hi all,

I agree with Bill H. Japanese was my feeling as well (but I couldn't find the mark).

Regards,
Arjan

Just wanted to show some pictures of a circa 1900 Meiji period Art Nouveau Kutani vase with decoration I had in mind when opining that the one here is Japanese, particularly with regard the treatment of the respective phoenixes.

The Kutani piece stands about 7 inches off the stand, where I have it waxed in place due to an uneven bottom. I believe it originally was hung in a sunny place by the dragon handles and used to hold a decorative vine.

Best regards,

Bill H.
