Subject:Plate With Twin Dragons
Posted By: Lance W Frazer Wed, Sep 26, 2018 IP: 2601:204:4001:3df5:5

Just bought this because I liked the imagery. The plate is 10 inches across, shows a little wear and tear. I would appreciate any information that might be gleaned from the marks on the back. My thanks in advance.

This is a late-20th century or subsequent dish of a transfer-decorated type that may have been produced by ornamentation factories in Hong Kong or Taiwan. Macao also makes transfer wares, as does Mainland China, but I've never seen any attributed to Macao with an apocryphal Daoguang reign mark resembling the one found on the bottom of this dish. In the late 20th century I recall seeing similar wares in restaurants around Hong Kong and Taiwan in porcelain and melamine plastic versions, but in those days I was more interested in the food in them than the base-marks they might have borne.

Best regards,

Bill H.
